OK I got one that has been bugging me for years. A Cartoon movie.  There is a boy and a girl.  A castle in the clouds ... I did know more but it's been a long time.  Also this song seems to keep popping up, not sure if there were words in the movie but it's pretty much the same as "Don't dream it's over" Crowded House, Neil Finn. If anyone has any idea of what im talking about, please drop a line!!! :-)

I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but your description was kinda vague.  My sister found this on e-bay, it was a movie we grew up watching as kids.  Jack and the Beanstalk.  But it's different than the usual story, and it's kinda scary.  There's a girl (princess) in pink with short hair, that dances with Jack in the clouds and she sings this same song like 4 different times in the movie (can't remember the song).  Look into it.  Or if you need more help, let me know, and I'll call my sister.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Ok now I feel like such a dork.  That does sound like the movie a lot.  What an easy name.  Here I was look for a name like Kingdom in the sky.  lol  Yeah I do need a little more info like ... The year on the video, Name of director or what ever is a key name on the video, also maybe One or two names of the people who did some of the voices.  If this is possible. Movies like this one are the hardest to find in my experience. I can't believe my long search might actually be over ... YES!  lol I really am jumping too!
Thank You

Okay, so my sister left the movie in Houston, but I was able to find it on imdb.  It's Jack and the Beanstalk, but it's an English-dubbed, Japanese animated film.  It was directed by Gisaburo Sugii and it came out in 1974.  The song that you might remember (sung by the little girl that floats on the clouds) is "No One's Happier Than I."  Here's the site...  http://us.imdb.com/Title?0074705.  Good luck finding it on Ebay or wherever the search may take you.

P.S.  Did you check my post on the cartoon movie?  If you have any ideas, please help.  It's KILLING ME!!

-- Posted by biersner on 7:13 pm on Sep. 30, 2003

It is NOT the Japanese movie...do a search on Ebay for "Jack and the Beanstalk (1975)".  I just bought it off there and saw one or two others.  The cover has the beanstalk in the center with Tulip to the left with Jack and Crosby running across the bottom.  I've been searching for directors/voices, etc. for quite a while, but it is NOT on IMDB.

-- Posted by BettyBlu on 10:48 pm on Sep. 30, 2003

Thank you both.  I did just find it and it is also under 1976.  Yay, now I have to pay the big bucks to get it.  Thank you.

does anyone have the wav file or mp3 file for "no one's happier than i" or any other songs from the movie?  i cant find them or a soundtrack anywhere!  i'd gladly buy the soundtrack.

-- Posted by bfollett on 7:04 pm on Feb. 22, 2004

This movie has also haunted me for years.  It must be 20 years since I last saw it and that song > "No one's happier than I" is still stuck in my head.  I've looked for it for years on the music sharing networks like napster and kazaa, but never had any luck.  I never thought to try ebay for a copy of the movie itself.  I checked there tonight after reading these posts, but no one had any listed for sale right now.  Well if anyone knows where else to get it (or at least that song), I'd also be interested...  Its just nice to see others remember such a strange cartoon from their youths.

-- Posted by bfollett on 7:10 pm on Feb. 22, 2004

Just did a bit more web surfing and found this link.  It doesn't seem to lead to a way of purchasing the video, but does give a little more info about it, and a nice cover art shot.  www.atlasfilm.com/jack.htm

-- Posted by jappygrrl on 6:15 pm on Feb. 25, 2004

Don't forget the dog singing..."If you have someone to love, lucky you.  You must be kind in all that you do, silver moon, shining so bright, you must agree..." then some sort of barking, howling noise.

I've been going nuts trying to find this movie for ages!!!  It is and is not a Japanese movie.  The animation and direction ARE Japanese.  We saw an English version of it though, produced by Walt Disney studios.

"No one's happier than I, I feel like reaching out to touch the sky, something something cloud, I could shout out loud, I'm aglow, and I know the reason why."

I kept an eye on ebay and got a used copy of the video tape for $20.  There were a few other auctions for the tape still going on if anyone else is really interested in getting it.

-- Posted by bfollett on 7:10 am on Mar. 31, 2004

Well, I got the movie on Ebay for $20.  If anyone is interested in getting an mp3 of the song No One's Happier than I, let me know.  I made one from the video tape.  Not exactly high fidelity, but not too bad.

good movie, good luck getting it

Now i have located a dvd copy of jack and the beanstalk.
Is it possible to rip only the songs from the dvd and store them as mp3's?

-- Posted by bfollett on 4:50 am on May 6, 2004

I was under the impression this movie was not available on DVD, so I'm interested in where you got a copy.  Anyway, it is possible to Rip a DVD and then in turn extract the music and compress it to DVD.  I've done it, but it wasn't a lot of fun.  Here's a good site on the web to start with if you really want to try this:
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd2vcd_with_smart_dvd2avi_tmpgenc.cfm
When I extracted the music from the video tape of Jack & the beanstalk, I simply put the audio out from my VCR into the audio in of my SoundBlaster card and used there sound recorder program to capture the audio.  Unfortunately this introduced a lot of hiss because the source was a video tape.  If you do rip a copy of "No ones happier than I" from DVD, I'd love to get a clearer copy of the song.  I haven't ripped a DVD and coverted the audio to MP3 in over a year, so I'm rusty on all the steps, but if you run into trouble with instructions on the site I listed above, send me an email with the problem(s) and I'll see if I can't help.

bfollett,
well i ordered it off this anime site. We shall see if it is the real thing or not. Hopefully it is. It could be someoine just burned a vcr tape to dvd. i dunno.
if it is the real thing, i will rip the whole soundtrack. And i will be more than happy to make it available to everyone here(free of charge).
one more thing, the song you got off the tape: i take it it would also include all the background stuff that also played during the song?
the one song i want is the guitar solo that was played when madame hecuba confronted jack and margaret after jack escaped from the giant at the well scene. If you were to take that off the video, i suppose the talking during the solo could not be filtered. is this true?

-- Posted by bfollett on 12:08 pm on May 6, 2004

Yeah, if there is talking in during a song, there's no real way to get rid of it, I've seen some success with programs if it is a stereo recording and the voice is center channel, but I believe this is simply a mono recording, so the left and right channels would contain the same data.  Fortunately the song I was after had no talking during it.  I even spliced together the main portion of the with an extra verse that plays at the end of the movie.  The ending verse does have sounds of the Giant falling off the beanstalk, but its basically instrumental at that point, so I just faded out and ended the song before it gets to that.  Good luck and keep me(us) up to date on how much success you have ripping the audio from the DVD.  I'm jealous you found a DVD.  I would have held out if I'd known it existed.

-- Posted by mikecoon on 1:55 pm on May 8, 2004

bfollett,
I got the DVD in and it is the real thing. I used DVD Audio Ripper to get the soundtrack off. Unfortunately, the soundtrack and voices were placed on the same channel so i could not seperate the music from the rest.
Now, how do we getin touch with gisaburo sugii? i been trying for sevral years.
also, I found peter J Solmo addy and wrote to him. Unfortunately he died in the late 19070's . Iyt was his widow who replied to me. She does not know who i can get in touch with about the movie.

Well, i got the five songs off the dvd that i wanted. It is a good thing there was minimal backgorund stuff like actors talking except for the last song.
but anyweays, i got the DVD and now i got the soundtrack on mp3's on my hard drive. it si very cool indeed.

Hey, I've been haunted by this movie for several years now as well. I can't remember how old I was when I first watched it, but it's probably been almost 20 years. Just today I was looking info on it for the first time. I don't remember much about the movie, but I know there was something about the music that stayed in my head all these years. There was something really haunting about it all and I want to watch it again so very badly. I remember being very sad that the princess and Jack didn't stay together in the end... it made me so sad I would cry. Wow, it feels wierd just typing this up.

So much is my fascination for this movie that I've made an account in this site just so I could write this. This is my first post.

Mikecoon, I beseech you... if you have the soundtrack of that movie in your drive, -please- share it with me. My email is franistheman@hotmail.com. If you want to transfer in any other way, let me know. Thank you so very much.
And bfollett, if you read this, I would like to hear your 'mixed' version of the ending song. I remember that part with the giant falling stuck in my head too...
Thank you. ^.^

Sylence, I'm not sure if you got it, but about a week ago I emailed you my VHS extraction of the song "no one's happier than I".  Just wondering if you got it.  I sent it from a free email account that isn't always that reliable

-- Posted by Sylence on 7:59 pm on June 25, 2004

Wow, thank you so much for replying and sending the song to me. Unfortunately no, I didn't recieve it. I'm sorry, I'm using a free email account that isn't very reliable either.

I should have thought of this earlier, but this is my other account:
802997597@uprm.edu
This one is much better. Please resend it to this account, when you can.

Thank you so very much. I really appreciate it. ^_^

Thank you bfollett, I did get it this time. I really, really appreciate it. And it's pretty decent quality! At least the singing is very understandable.

Actually, when I heard it.. I somehow didn't remember it to be like I thought it was. It felt really strange. Maybe I'll get to watch the movie again someday...

Again, thank you so much.

Folks, I just found out today about a movie that has been driving me nuts! I'm in my late 40s now and have also been haunted by the movie I only remember seeing in Wausau, Wisconisn, while on leave in the Navy. No I know of had ever heard of it and online searching was unsuccessful until tonight and then I find lots of things once I could find the creator of this movie. Everyone was right, this movie was very stirring and I know it sounds nuts but I loved it! I have been trying for years to obtain a copy and now that I know it exists will not be happy until I can find a copy in English. Glad you all found it, but it sure had been keeping me wondering if I had dreamed it all. *LOL* Great Flick!

Hi!
Wow. I've been looking and looking for the song "no-one's happier than I" for years and YEARS! I was born in the 80s but a fair few things stuck in my head. This was one of them. And I think the title of this thread is entirely appropiate, because you really do get haunted by it. It comes up for no apparent reason.
I was wondering, being a newbie and all, whether anyone who has a copy of the songs that were avaliable from it would be able to send them to me? I know it's a bit much to ask considering that I am brand new on this forum, but this cartoon seems to bring back an awful lot of nostalgic memories for me, and I want to sort of recreate those memories.
my email address (for mp3 storage) is jess_mp3@yahoo.com
Please if you can help me that would be great!

-- Posted by bfollett on 3:44 pm on Aug. 10, 2004

I emailed my VHS extracted copy to you at the email address you listed.  I would love it the person who got the DVD copy of the movie would extract the song, I'm sure it would be of better quality.

-- Posted by mikecoon on 5:39 pm on Aug. 10, 2004

I have extracted 5 songs fromt he DVD but I am on dial -up and i dont feel like waiting 30 mins to send it to someone.

I was wondering if this film was also known as Castle in the Sky?
Because the ones I look up online seem to be made in 1986 or so.

-- Posted by bfollett on 5:47 am on Aug. 11, 2004

If I recall, the film was released by a couple of different distributers in different years, but I don't recall ever seeing it under a different name.

-- Posted by BettyBlu on 4:29 pm on Aug. 11, 2004

Castle in the Sky sounds familiar. Is it the same movie?

Hi all!

Help me please?!  I want the "Jack and the Beanstalk" cartoon on DVD.  Someone claimed to have bought it.  From what site?  I also would like the song sent to my email address as well:

theresa1r@yahoo.com

I bought the cartoon on VHS, but would be willing to pay money for the DVD version.

I am so glad to know I am not the only one who has been haunted by this cartoon from my past!  :)
