Yazoo

A little something about Yazoo
Yazoo - Yaz to us Americans - was the unlikely paring of R&B singer Alison Moyet and Depeche Mode founder Vince Clarke. Clarke was of the same school as such Kraftwork/Eno influenced, synthesizer-driven acts as Ultravox, Soft Cell, Gary Numan, Human League, Yellow, and Eurythmics - the 'new wave' of British music. It was Clarke who had written Depeche Mode's hits to date, and when he left to make a go of it on his own many thought Depeche Mode wouldn't make it. Obviously they did, as did Yazoo. While Situation was the only song from the album to have immediate chart success in the States, Upstairs at Eric's spawned a number of U.K. hits for Yazoo, including Don't Go and Only You, which wouldn't hit the charts in the U.S. until long after the duo's break-up. Upstairs at Eric's is considered even today to be one of the finest albums of the hard-to-define 'modern rock' genre, and it remains a favorite of this new wave enthusiast. Yazoo called it quits after their second album, primarily because Moyet had never been completely comfortable in Clarke's keyboard driven, electronic world. Moyet's solo portfolio includes another early 80's classic, Love Resurrection, as well as more current works.

Don't Go

Came in from the city, walked into the door
I turned around when I heard the sound of footsteps on the floor
Love just like addiction, now I'm hooked on you
I need some time to get it right, your love's gonna see me through

Can't stop now, don't you know
I ain't never gonna let you go, don't go

Oh baby, make your mind up, give me what you got
Fix me with your lovin', shut the door and turn the lock
Hey, go get the doctor, doctor came too late
Another night, I feel alright, my love for you can't wait

Can't stop now, don't you know
I ain't never gonna let you go, don't go

Came in from the city, walked into the door
I turned around when I heard the sound of footsteps on the floor
Said he was a killer, now I know it's true
I'm dead when you walk out the door, hey babe, I'm hooked on you

Can't stop now, don't you know
I ain't never gonna let you go, don't go
Can't stop now, don't you know
I ain't never gonna let you go, don't go
Can't stop now, don't you know
I ain't never gonna let you go, don't go
Can't stop now, don't you know
I ain't never gonna let you go, don't go
Can't stop now, don't you know
I ain't never gonna let you go, don't go
Can't stop now, don't you know
I ain't never gonna let you go, don't go
Can't stop now, don't you know
I ain't never gonna let you go, don't go
Can't stop now, don't you know
I ain't never gonna let you go, don't go

Don't go
Don't go
Don't go
Don't go
