Tears for Fears

A little something about Tears for Fears
Roland Orzabal wrote the songs, sang some of them, and played guitar and keyboards. Curt Smith sang as well as playing bass and keyboards. Born within two months of each other in Bath, England, the two grew up together playing in rock and ska bands before forming Tears for Fears. Orzabel and Smith's synth-driven pop hit the scene at just the right time. They hit the number 3 spot in the UK charts with an early single, "Mad World," and followed that up with the successful singles "Pale Shelter" and "Change." Both their 1983 debut album The Hurting and their 1986 album Songs from the Big Chair are beautiful examples of the potential of 'synth-pop' in that the music is moving, the lyrics are meaningful and the production excellent. It took the band four years to record and mix The Seeds of Love, time which proved to be too much for these childhood friends. It would be the last Tears for Fears album featuring both Smith and Orzabal, though Orzabal has continued to record under the Tears for Fears name.

Lyrics featured below: "Shout", "Everybody wants to rule the World", "Head over Heels" , "Mad World"

Shout

(CHORUS)Shout, shout, Let it all outThese are the things I can do withoutCome on, I'm talking to you, come onCHORUSIn violent timesYou shouldn't have to sell your soulIn black and whiteThey really really ought to knowThose one track mindsThat took you for a working boyKiss them goodbyeYou shouldn't have to jump for joyCHORUSThey gave you lifeAnd in return you gave them hellAs cold as iceI hope we live to tell the taleI hope we live to tell the taleCHORUSCHORUSAnd when you've taken down your guardIf I could change your mindI'd really love to break your heartI'd really love to break your heartCHORUSCHORUSEverybody wants to rule the worldWelcome to your lifeThere's no turning backEven while we sleepWe will find you acting on your best behaviorTurn your back on Mother NatureEverybody wants to rule the world. It's my own designIt's my own remorseHelp me to decideHelp me make the most Of freedom and of pleasureNothing ever lasts foreverEverybody wants to rule the world. There's a room where the light won't find youHolding hands while the walls come tumbling downWhen they do I'll be right behind you.So glad we've almost made itSo sad they had to fade itEverybody wants to rule the world.I can't stand this indecisionMarried with a lack of visionEverybody wants to rule the worldSay that you'll never never never never need itOne headline why believe it?Everybody wants to rule the world. All for freedom and for pleasureNothing ever lasts foreverEverybody wants to rule the world.

Head over heels

I wanted to be with you alone
And talk about the weather
But traditions I can trace against the child in your face
Won't escape my attention
You keep your distance via the system of touch
And gentle persuasion
I'm lost in admiration could I need you this much
Oh you're wasting my time
You're just wasting time.

Something happens and I'm head over heels
I never find out until I'm head over heels
Something happens and I'm head over heels
Ah don't take my heart
Don't break my heart
Don't throw it away.

I made a fire and watching it burn
Thought of your future
With one foot in the past now just how long will it last
No no no have you no ambition
My mother and my brothers used to breathing clean air
And dreaming I'm a doctor
It's hard to be man when there's a gun in your hand
Oh I feel so...

Something happens and I'm head over heels.
I never find out until I'm head over heels
Something happens and I'm head over heels
Ah don't take my heart
Don't break my heart
Don't throw it away.

And it's my four leaf clover
I'm on the line, one open mind
This is my four leaf clover

Mad World

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
And their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dream in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me
