The many talented members of the Escovedo family are no strangers to the music industry. Pete Escovedo led the well-known latin outfit Azteca, and worked with Carlos Santana decades before he hit it big with Supernatural. Alejandro and Javier Escovedo founded True Believers, an Austin, Texas critically acclaimed indie rock band that crumbled as a result of recod label indifference.
Oakland, California native Sheila Escovedo, or Sheila E., was already recognized as a talented percussionist and vocalist, having worked with such names as Marvin Gaye and Lionel Richie, before Prince set her the road to pop stardom. Prince had a talent for writing songs that would help put female acts on the map - apart from creating pop careers for Vanity and Apollonia, he penned the Bangles' hit "Manic Monday," Sheena Easton's "Sugar Walls," and Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U." In 1984 Sheila E. found herself climbing the charts with a Prince composition, "The Glamorous Life."
Sheila's tenure as a part of Prince's glamorous life saw her record a pair of albums with the purple one's Paisley Park label, as well as a stint supporting him as a member of the Revolution. She has continued to perform and record in her years after Prince, and was the band leader on Magic Johnson's short-lived late night show.

A little something about the Sheila E
Lyrics shown below : "The Glamorous Life", "The Belle of St. Mark"
The Glamorous Life
She wears a long fur coat of mink
Even in the summertime
Everybody knows from the coy little wink
The girl's got a lot on her mind
She's got big thoughts, big dreams
And a big brown Mercedes sedan
What I think this girl, she really wants
Is 2 be in love with a man
She wants 2 lead the glamorous life
She don't need a man's touch
She wants 2 lead the glamorous life
Without love, it ain't much
She saw him standing in the section marked
"If U have 2 ask, U can't afford it" lingerie
She threw him bread and said "Make me scream"
In the dark, what could he say
Boys with small talk and small minds
Really don't impress me in bed
She said I need a man's man baby, diamonds and furs
Love would only conquer my head
She wants 2 lead the glamorous life
She don't need a man's touch
She wants 2 lead the glamorous life
Without love, it ain't much
They made haste in the brown sedan
They drove 2 55 Secret Street
They made love and by the 7th wave
She knew she had a problem
She thought real love is real scary
Money only pays the rent
Love is 4 ever and that's all your life
Love is heaven sent - it's glamorous
Lead the glamorous life
She don't need a man's touch
She's want 2 lead the glamorous life
Without love, it ain't much
CHORUS:
She wants 2 lead the glamorous life
She don't need a man's touch
She wants 2 lead the glamorous life
Without love, it ain't much, it ain't much
Lead the glamorous life
She don't need a man's touch
She wants 2 lead the glamorous life
Without love, it ain't much, it ain't much
CHORUS {x3}
The Belle of St. Mark
The belle of St. Mark was a fair but a passionate creature
ebony hair and eyes of deep blue-green
The belle of St. Mark wore clothes that belonged to his father
even though he was only a mere seventeen
Chorus:
I´m in love
I´m in love
I´m in love
with the belle of St. Mark.
It tears me apart whenever I hear him cry.
I´m in love
I´m in love
I´m in love
with the belle of St. Mark
And if he doesn´t love me I think I´ll probably die.
You can tell from expressions that he makes public
that he suffers from a badly broken heart.
He smiles as he feeds the afternoon pigeons
but he cries as he walks the night streets of St. Mark
Chorus
Bridge:
The belle of St. Mark he don´t talk to strangers
He´s so mysterious
His erotic persuasion provokes me like no other man
The fire I have for him is undoubtably serious
(spoken):
I must make him see that he needs love to forget
And if anyone can help him, I can
I can help.
I can help you.
His Paris hair blows in the warm Parisian air
It blows whenever his Paris hair is there
The woman who hurt him surely must have trouble sleeping
´cause the belle of St. Mark is a beauty extraordinaire
