A little something about Foreigner
There are those who have criticised Foreigner for their formulaic compositions and heavy reliance on Keyboards, yet they're loved by millions of fans for their accessible hard rock sound, Foreigner formed in 1976 as a collaboration between former King Crimson member Ian MacDonald and popular session guitarist Mick Jones, both British, who brought in Americans Lou Gramm (formerly with a Bad Company cover band) on vocals, Al Greenwood on keyboards, Ed Gagliardi on bass and Dennis Elliott on drums While recording 1981's 4, MacDonald and Greenwood left the band; Greenwood went on to form the band Spys with Ed Gagliardi. Foreigner completed the synth-oriented 4, which quickly went to No. 1 and sold six million copies, featuring hits like the No. 2 "Waiting For a Girl Like You" and the No. 4 "Urgent." Their 1984 follow-up Agent Provocateur reached No. 4 and contained the No. 1 hit "I Want to Know What Love Is." As is customary for popular bands at their peak, Foreigner took some time off in the mid-'80s so its members could pursue other projects. Gramm released a hit solo album, Ready Or Not, while Jones recordeda solo album that flopped and then produced albums by Van Halen andBad Company. Despite a declining fan base, Foreigner's next effort, 1987's Inside Information managed to go platinum. After touring,Foreigner went on hiatus again; Gramm released Long Hard Look, another success, while Jones produced Billy Joel's smash 1989 album Stormfront.
