Blancmange

A little something about Blancmange
Singer Neil Arthur and synth player Steven Luscombe came together under the name Blancmange in 1979. Blancmange got a push toward success in 1981, when one of their early tracks - "Sad Day" - appeared on the Some Bizarre indie compilation album. The LP was put together largely by London band manager/eye for talent Stevo, and featured such little-known London talents as Depeche Mode, the The, B-Movie and Soft Cell. Surrounded by such good company, Blancmange had a brief string of hits in the UK, their best chart showing being "Living On The Ceiling," from their debut album, at number seven. It took until their second album, Mange Tout, for the States to take notice, and they had a couple of minor hits here, including "Don't Tell Me." The catchy, dance-oriented tunes such as "Don't Tell Me" for wich this early '80s singer/synth duo is known really belies the diversity of their music. While at the heart of their music lies synth work, they also opted to include a flesh-and-blood horn section and string accompanyment to much of their work. Much of their music also contains an important eastern-component, with a tabla and sitar player sitting in on many tracks. When the duo called it quits in 1986, Luscumbe persued his interest in eastern music, while Arthur took a few years off before releasing solo material.

Don't Tell Me

I'll stay with you until the end
I'll say you'll let me be your friend
I'll say you'll let me int he end
I just wanna be your friend

How can I be sure you're breaking all the rules
How can I be sure I should be high above
I'll climb the mountain, reaching for the skies
And all too soon I jump the moon and find I'm losing my mind

And don't tell me you're the howling wind
And don't tell me you're the moonlit star
And don't tell me you're the devil's friend
And don't tell me, no don't tell me I've gone too far

I didn't hear you as you left my room last night
You turned your back on me
I didn't hear you as you left my room last night
Please return and set me free

I'll climb the mountain, reaching for the skies
And all too soon I jump the moon and find the sun burns my eyes

And don't tell me you're the howling wind
And don't tell me you're the moonlit star
And don't tell me you're the devil's friend
And don't tell me, no don't tell me I've gone too far

No no no...
No no no...
I can't get a grip on...
I can't get a grip on...
I can't get a grip on... (you)
I can't get a grip on... no no I can't get a grip on!

I'll say you'll let me in the end
I'll say you'll let me be your friend
I've maybe asked this once before
Don't you love me anymore
