Kate Bush

A little something about Kate Bush
You either love Kate Bush or you can't stand to listen to a minute of her music. I proudly count myself among the former. Born in London, Bush grew up surrounded by music - her Irish mother had been a folk dancer, and she was taught the violin and piano from an early age. Bush left school at 16, and by the time she was 17 signed her first record deal. Actually getting into the studio to record took a couple years, during which she found the time to write her own music, put together a band, and study dance. Bush was 19 in 1978 when EMI released her debut album, "The Kick Inside." Her first work was in large part a lighter incarnation of the dramatic, oft-pretensious '70s UK progressive rock scene which had earlier produced the likes of Marc Bolan, Roxy Music, King Crimson and Peter Gabriel's Genesis. Enough listeners in the UK appreciated her debut single "Wuthering Heights" to propel it to the top spot in the charts. The rest of the country - and much of the press - took the completely opposite view, and were quite forthcoming and unforgiving in their criticism. Many thought that this akward young woman with an unearthly voice would be little more than a one-hit-wonder, but Bush proved them all wrong with three more successful albums over the next four years. Success in the States came at long last in 1985 with "Running Up That Hill," and while her commerical success has gradually declined since her early chart topping days, Bush's music has made great strides and won over many former detractors in the music industry. She appeared on Peter Gabriel's "So" album, and her own most recent release featured the talents of Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and the egomaniac formerly known as Prince.
Running up that hill

It doesn't hurt me
Do you want to feel how it feels
Do you want to know, know that it doesn't hurt me
Do you want to hear about the deal I'm making
You
It's you and me

And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building

Say if I only could oh...

You don't want to hurt me
But see how deep the bullet lies
Unaware I'm tearing you asunder
Oh there is thunder in our hearts
Is there so much hate for the ones we love
Tell me we both matter don't we
You
It's you and me
It's you and me, you won't be unhappy

And if I only could
I'd make a deal with god
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
Be running up that building

If I only could...

You
It's you and me
It's you and me, you won't be unhappy

Come on baby, come on darling
Let me steal this moment from you now
Come on angel, come on, come on darling
Let's exchange the experience, oh...

And if I only could
I'd make a deal with God
And I'd get him to swap our places
Be running up that road
Be running up that hill
With no problems...

And if I only could
Be running up that hill
With no problems.
