Go West

A little something about Go West
You may not remember Go West... actually, I didn't either, but I do remember this song. "We Close Our Eyes" was a pop song, with heavy synth work and a dance beat, so I have no doubt I heard this numerous times at really bad high school dances. (That's a knock at high school dances, not the music played at high school dances - I fondly recall dancing to Soft Cell and Modern English and the B-52s in my lovely, asbestos-lines high school gymnasium.) Peter Cox and Richard Drummie came together as Go West in the early '80s, and scored a recording deal in 1984. Their debut, self-titled album was the fruits of two years of song writing, and scored them a hit with "We Close Our Eyes." The two stuck it out until 1994; singer Cox has released a bit of solo material, while Drummie has done some songwriting and producing for such artists as Kirtsy McColl (yeah!) and Debbie Gibson (blah!).

Lyrics featured below : "We Close Our Eyes", "King of Wishful Thinking" (This is technically an early '90s song, but I'll throw it in here anyway)

We Close Our Eyes

Inside everyone hides one desire
Outside no one would know
Danger, close as the edge of the knife
Safer not to let go
And whil we miss chances
You can almost hear time slipping away

We close our eyes we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes to time slipping away

No show... Wednesday girl waits witht he wine
She knows just what to say
While no one listens
You can almost hear time slipping away

We close our eyes we never lose a game
Imagination never lets us take the blame
We close our eyes to see the final frame
We close our eyes to time slipping away

We can talk to strangers
We are burning with the spark
And we can walk on water
We are tigers in the dark
We are burning!

We close our eyes

Heroes never give in to the night
He knows how far he can run
And as he surrenders
You can almost hear time slipping away

King of wishful thinking I don't need to fall at your feet Just 'cause you cut me to the bone And I won't miss the way that you kiss me We were never carved in stone If I don't listen to the talk of the town Then maybe I can fool myself.. I'll get over you.. I know I will I'll pretend my ship's not sinking And I'll tell myself I'm over you 'cause I'm the king of wishful thinking I am the king of wishful thinking I refuse to give in to my blues That's not how it's going to be And I deny the tears in my eyes I don't want to let you see.. no That you have made a hole in my heart And now I've got to fool myself.. I'll get over you.. I know I will I'll pretend my ship's not sinking And I'll tell myself I'm over you 'cause I'm the king of wishful thinking.. I'll get over you.. I know I will I'll pretend my ship's not sinking And I'll tell myself I'm over you 'cause I'm the king of wishful thinking I will never, never shed a tear for you I'll get over you If I don't listen to the talk of the town Then maybe I can fool myself.. I'll get over you.. I know I will I'll pretend my ship's not sinking And I'll tell myself I'm over you 'cause I'm the king of wishful thinking I'm the king of wishful thinking I'll get over you.. I know I will You made a hole in my heart But I won't shed a tear for you I'll be the king of wishful thinking I'll get over you.. I'll pretend my heart's still beating 'cause I've got no more tears for you I'm the king of wishful thinking.. I'll get over you.. I know I will You made a hole in my heart And I'll tell myself I'm over you 'cause I'm the king of wishful thinking
