Erasure

A little something about Erasure
Erasure's keyboardist/songwrite Vince Clarke was, of course, a founding member of Depeche Mode, playing keyboards and writing much of their early material. But Clarke found life as a member of the band too restrictive, and left shortly after the release of their debut album, "Speak and Spell." While perhaps not the wisest career move anyone has ever made (Depeche Mode went on to become one of the most successful bands of the decade) the acts Clarke would form have had great success in their own right, and Clarke's post-Mode compositions have proven to be every bit as enduring as those of the band he left. Clarke first discovered singer Alison Moyet, whose soulful vocals played counterpoint to his synth-driven music. As Yazoo (or Yaz in the U.S.) the duo had a string of hits including "Situation," "Only You," "Don't Go," "Nobody's Diary," and "State Farm." After Moyet and Clarke parted ways, Clarke placed a print advertisement for a singer for his new band, and the ad brought him to the attention of Andy Bell. The list of hits that Clarke and Bell have had under the name Erasure is just as impressive as those of his previous outfits; the band's first single off their debut Wonderland "Who Needs Love Like That," "Oh L'amour," "Victim of Love," "It Doesn't Have To Be Like That," "Chains of Love," "A Little Respect," "Chorus," "Blue Savannah," "Love To Hate You," and their Abba-esque "Take A Chance On Me," just to name a few. Bringing their success with them into the '90s, it's been just about a year since Erasure released their last album, Cowboy.

Who needs Love (Like That)

There's something going on,something's not quite right. There's something strange that'shappening to me.There's someone at the door,I hear voices in my head.It seems things aren't the way theyought to be.Who needs love like that? Whoneeds love like that?It seemed so clear before,I held my point of view,I kept my conversation neverchanged. Now it's all gone wrongand words are kind of hard, and nothing else around me looksthe same.Who needs love like that? Whoneeds love like that?Love can turn you upside down, then leave you in the cold. It's plain to see you're losing allcontrol. (losing all control)Who needs love like that? Whoneeds love like that?I'd like to understand,I'd like to find out why,I can't remember all the lies thatyou've said. But then I see your face, and nothing really counts, don't tell me now this feeling willstay.Who needs love like that? Whoneeds love like that?Love can turn you upside down, then leave you in the cold. It's plain to see you're losing allcontrol.Who needs love like that? Whoneeds love like that?Who needs love like that? Whoneeds love like that?Love can turn you upside down, then leave you in the cold. It's plain to see you're losing allcontrol. (losing all control)Who needs love like that? Whoneeds love like that?Who needs love like that? Whoneeds love like that?Who needs love like that? (whoneeds love like that?)Who needs love like that? (whoneeds love like that?)

Chains of Love How can I explain When there are few words I can choose How can I explain When words get broken Do you remember There was a time ahaha When people on the street Were walking hand in hand in hand They used to talk about the weather Making plans together Days would last forever Come to me, cover me, hold me Together we'll break these chains of love Don't give up, don't give up Together with me and my baby Break the chains of love Do you remember Once upon a time ahaha When there were open doors An invitation to the world We were falling in and out with lovers Looking out for others Our sisters and our brothers Come to me, cover me, hold me Together we'll break these chains of love Don't give up, don't give up Together with me and my baby Break the chains of love Together we'll break these chains of love How can I explain When there are few words I can choose How can I explain When words get broken We used to talk about the weather Making plans together Days would last forever Come to me, cover me, hold me Together we'll break these chains of love Don't give up, don't give up Together with me and my baby Break the chains of love Together we'll break these chains of love
A Little Respect I try to discover A little something to make me sweeter Oh baby refrain from breaking my heart I'm so in love with you I'll be forever blue That you give me no reason Why you're making me work so hard That you give me no That you give me no That you give me no That you give me no Soul, I hear you calling Oh baby please give a little respect to me And if I should falter Would you open your arms out to me We can make love not war And live at peace with our hearts I'm so in love with you I'll be forever blue What religion or reason Could drive a man to forsake his lover Don't you tell me no Don't you tell me no Don't you tell me no Don't you tell me no Soul, I hear you calling Oh baby please give a little respect to me I'm so in love with you I'll be forever blue That you give me no reason Why you're making me work so hard That you give me no That you give me no That you give me no That you give me no Soul, I hear you calling Oh baby please give a little respect to me Soul, I hear you calling Oh baby please give a little respect to me
