Bryan Adams

A little something about Bryan Adams
Canada had its share of pop success stories in the 1980s, though for most - Martha and the Muffins, Men Without Hats, etc. - that success was pretty short lived. Bryan Adams meanwhile has managed to stay on top of things since his 1983 album Cuts Like A Knife brought him to the attention of listeners outside of Canada. In 1984 Adams was introduced to the top of the pop charts, with a #1 album - Reckless - and a run of top ten hits. With hits "Heaven," "Summer of '69" and "Run To You," Adams and his rock ballads owned top 40 radio in the US for a few months... whether that is good thing or not I'll leave up to you to decide. Reckless became the top selling album ever released by a Canadian act, and earned him a grammy nomination and a list of awards at home. For the '90s, Bryan Adams softened his sound his sound a touch, setting aside the "rock" part of his former sound and settling with ballads. The change yielded great success in 1991 with "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," a track from Kevin Costner's fluffy Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves film. Again, he topped charts at home and elsewhere and won awards. And since contributing to soundtrack had paid off so well he did it again... and again. He had a hit from the fluffy 1993 Three Musketeers film, and topped the US charts with "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?" from the slightly-less-fluffy film Don Juan Demarco. Adams remains hard at work, having released his tenth solo album last year.

Straight from the heart

I could start dreamin' but it'd never end
As long as you're gone we may as well pretend
I've been dreamin'
Straight from the heart

You said it's easy but who's to say
That we'd be able to keep it this way
But it's easier
Comin' straight from the heart

Give it to me straight from the heart
Tell me we can make another start
You know I'll never go - as long as I know
It's comin' straight from the heart

I'll see you on the street some other time
And all our words would just fall outta line
While we're dreamin'
Straight from the heart

Give it to me straight from the heart
Tell me we can make one more start
You know I'll never go - as long as I know
It's comin' straight from the heart

Heaven

Oh, thinkin' about all our younger years
There was only you and me
We were young and wild and free
Now nothin' can take you away from me
We've been down that road before
But that's over now
You keep me comin' back for more
CHORUS:
Baby you're all that I want
When you're lyin' here in my arms
I'm findin' it hard to believe
We're in heaven
And love is all that I need
And I found it there in your heart
It isn't too hard to see
We're in heaven
Oh, once in your life you find someone
Who will turn your world around
Bring you up when you're feelin' down
Yeah, nothin' could change what you mean to me
Oh, there's lots that I could say
But just hold me now
'Cause our love will light the way
CHORUS
I've been waitin' for so long
For somethin' to arrive
For love to come along
Now our dreams are comin' true
Through the good times and the bad
Yeah, I'll be standin' there by you

Summer of 69'

I got my first real six-string
Bought it at the five-and-dime
Played it till my fingers bled
Was the summer of 69

Me and some guys from school
Had a band and we tried real hard
Jimmy quit, Jody got married
I shoulda known we'd never get far

Oh when I look back now
The summer seemed to last forever
And if I had the choice Yeah
I'd always wanna be there
Those were the best days of my life

Ain't no use in complaining
When you got a job to do
I spent my evenings down at the drive-in
And that's when I met you

Standing on your momma's porch
You told me that you'd wait forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Oh yeah... back in the summer of 69

Man we were killing time
We were young and restless
We needed to unwind
I guess nothing could last
Forever
Forever... no

And now the times are changing
Look at everything that's come and gone
Sometimes when I play that old six-string
Think about you wonder what went wrong

Standing on your momma's porch
You told me that it'd last forever
Oh and when you held my hand
I knew that it was now or never
Those were the best days of my life

Oh yeah... back in the summer of 69
Uh huh... it was the summer of 69
Oh yeah... me and my baby in 69
It was the summer, summer, summer of 69

One night love affair You're the silent type And you caught my eye But I never thought that I'd be touchin' you How was I to know I'd let my feelin's go And that I'd be yours before the night was through One night love affair Tryin' to make like we don't care We were both reachin' out for somethin' One night love affair Pretendin' it ain't there Oh - and now we're left with nothin' When the mornin' breaks We go our separate ways If the night was made for love it ain't for keeps But I lose control As I watch you go All my senses say I'm in this much too deep Now you're outa reach One night love affair Tryin' to make like we don't care We were both reachin' out for somethin' One night love affair Pretendin' we don't care Oh - and now we're left with nothin' Solo One night love affair Trying' to make like we don't care We were both reachin' out for somethin' One night love affair Sometimes life ain't fair Oh - and not we're left with nothin'
Heat of the night I was caught in the crossfire of a silent scream Where one man's nightmare is another man's dream Pull the cover up high - and pray for the mornin' light Cause you're livin' alone - in the heat of the night Met a man with a message from the other side Couldn't take the pressure - had to leave it behind He said it's up to you You can run or you can fight (Ya that's right) Better leave it alone - in the heat of the night In the heat of the night they'll be comin' around There'll be lookin' for answers they'll be chasin' you down In the heat of the night (Where ya gonna hide when it all comes down) (Don't look back don't ever turn around) Had to pay the piper to call the tune Said he'd be back someday - said he'd be back real soon Pull the shades down low - you'll know when the time is right When you're lyin' alone in the heat of the night
Run To You She says her love for me could never die But that'd change if she ever found out about you and I Oh - but her love is cold It wouldn't hurt her if she didn't know, 'cause... When it gets too much I need to feel your touch I'm gonna run to you I'm gonna run to you Cause when the feelin's right I'm gonna run all night I'm gonna run to you She's got a heart of gold she'd never let me down But you're the one that always turns me on You keep me comin' 'round I know her love is true But it's so damn easy makin' love to you I got my mind made up I need to feel your touch I'm gonna run to you Ya - I'm gonna run to you Cause when the feelin's right I'm gonna stay all night I'm gonna run to you Ya - I'm gonna run to you Oh when the feelin's right I'm gonna run all night I'm gonna run to you
